SELLING IRELAND A PUP
Nov 4th, 2012 by Conor McCabe
The Sean Quinn story is a gift for the Irish bourgeoisie. He’s the example they’ll cite in the years to come that Ireland has a fair justice system. It sends billionaires to prison after all.
Quinn had a product-based approach in a paper asset world - and the Irish bourgeoisie rang rings around him. He’s their scapegoat, and going by the knee-jerk reactions it’s working as well.
At best, Quinn is a side-issue but instead he is front-and-centre in a story that was not of his making.
Asking why that is the case is not an excuse for Quinn - it’s about uncovering where real power lies in this country and the Quinn story shows that wherever power lies in this country, it certainly isn’t with Quinn…

Well said, it’s never in the hand they are showing you.
Oldest trick in the book.
I’m not a supporter of Sean Quinn either, but there are bigger geese
to be cooked in this country, just don’t hold your breath.
Meanwhile, Noonan is “powerless to tackle bankers pensions”.
If it wasnt so sad, it would actually be funny.
This place is well and truly **cked.
Couple of questions,
Conor, why aren’t that many people marching, lobbying, active? Unless I’m wrong and there are, Is that not the real problem? In the long term noone could get away with this stuff if the punters didn’t want it but it does require effort. Most of us have been educated now, how long can it just be about class (which it is) and not about laziness and indifference?
Also, if these bank employees have contracts that stipulate pension rights, what course of action would you take if you were Mr. Noonan (that one has got to be for Fran Crowe, in fairness to conor)
Emotional and physical S - L - O - T - H - and lots of government-taxed booze oils the inertia.
