Not quite sure they are looking for a success story. Nothing that would be considered a success from an Irish point of view anyway.

I think it's a collective. I don't think it's one person. although the name given in the public accounts committee is Mr. Jag Singh, and irish economy names him as Jagdip Singh.

His blog also suffers from that phenomenon of 'everything you read is true, excepting that rare item of which you have a first hand account'. I enjoy some of his posts, but then others, where I have some familiarity with the subject-matter, are so far off the mark to make you wonder about the credibility of the blog as a whole.

Yep. Nama Wine Lake is an accountant's blog, and given Ireland's class structure, no matter what is brought in by the government and/or IMF accountants will be protected.

I should add that very few of the cheerleaders for creative destruction feel that it should extend to themselves. Ask the average doctor what they feel about sheltered sectors and they'll rant about lawyers, academics, and civil servants. Ask a lawyer...etc. It shall be interesting to see how this pans out: chances are the IMF/ECB/EU will privilege the foreign exports and financial sectors since they are needed for growth and to repay debts, respectively. These were already privileged sectors, so I am sceptical that any this will bring about any major changes.

G.B.Shaw, or someone, said somewhere that 'the average Englishman enjoys a stern sermon, for he feels it will do his neighbour the world of good.'

In the same vein, I think NamaWineLake is representative of a particular section of Ireland who revel in the destruction that the IMF will wreak on the populace because they feel that other sections of society have enjoyed too much shelter and are overpaid.

Hi Liam,

it's an interesting point you're making. I don't think that is the case, but I'd need to explain that in more detail. I'll come back to this.

Hi Conor,

I can see where he is coming from. It pretty clear that no Irish administration past nor present has acted in the interests of the citizens. Not that the IMF/ECB will do that either, but the difference is that they want a success story. Is it possible that this might currently be the only plausible route available to challenging the death grip that vested interests in Ireland have on the Irish economy?
