RUAIRI QUINN : ACID FOR BLOOD
Jul 31st, 2011 by Conor McCabe
I admire its purity.
A survivor…
unclouded by conscience,
remorse,
or delusions of morality.” (Ash, Alien, 1979)
Ruairi Quinn, who last week refused to allocate funding to a school for children with autism, was until recently the Chair of the Fund Advisory Committee: 4th Level Ventures, 75 St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.
The objective of 4th Level Ventures is “to commercialise the business opportunities that arise from university research.’
It is funded by the bond dealers, Dolmen Securities.
So, while there is no money for autistic children, there is over €16 billion available for unsecured bonds, no problem whatsoever.
If we had an actual investigative newspaper sector here, the links between bond dealing firms and government ministers would be front-page news

Conor I really love how you can introduce cultural references, stuff like this, The Wire, Godfather, into politics. Mark Fisher did it brilliantly in Capitalist Realism too. Great stuff.
Thanks!

Conor how much is 4thlevelventures making out of the intellectual property that is developed in our tax funded third level institutions which includes ability own the creativity the same way they can own property, which means that IP creators can control its use. IP protection is therefore an important first step in the commercialisation process which includes:
: Intellectual property(IP) includes:
• Patentable inventions or technologies.
• Ideas with potential commercial value
• Software which can be copyright

i lived in Ireland from 2006 to 2009. I had to move my family back to Canada because we (correctly) suspected that my son was autistic.
I had a great job in Ireland (paid over 200K EUR) but all the money in the world could not change that in Ireland neither the govt nor the healthcare system nor education system wanted to even acknowledge that autism was an issue.
Come back in 3 years was the answer from the head of pediatrics at the Tallaght Hospital, a message delivered with a mix of pity and condescension.
Keep up the good work Conor. or come to Canada. We need some more people like you here.
