I read his and Stewart Holland's Modest proposal for resolving the Euro crisis, which he points out is a three part crisis, debt, banking, and investment, last night, and its well worth thinking through:
http://varoufakis.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/ceb1-modest-proposal-2-1-light-version-excluding-context-and-rationale-pdf.pdf

Also, it seems to be a bit of a hit:
http://yanisvaroufakis.eu/2011/03/24/a-fresh-rationale-for-and-a-new-variant-version-2-1-of-the-modest-proposal-for-overcoming-the-euro-crisis/#more-560

As that post indicates, there are plenty of alternatives to what the EU is doing. That they refuse to acknowledge the two other problems, the banking crisis that has banks stuffed full of overpriced paper and are calling them assets, and which need to written down and the investment strike in peripheral countries suggests that they have different priorities.

http://www.internationalviewpoint.org/spip.php?article2007
While the above is about Greek debt a lot of it applies to Ireland. I am bemused that Irish Banks are exposed to Greek debt (bondholders again)
I now think that the whole edifice of EU banks is so intertwined that it could collapse. They have no idea of who they have ultimately loaned money too.
