STATEMENT BY THE PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT: SUPPORT ICTU DEMONSTRATION, 27 NOVEMBER
Nov 24th, 2010 by Conor McCabe
The People’s Movement supports the ICTU demonstration in Dublin on Saturday.
While acknowledging that the demands are narrow and limited, this demonstration provides the best possibility at the moment for large-scale mobilisation against the EU/IMF austerity measures imposed on this country.
We have decided that we will ask members and supporters to march with their union and to work within it to solidify opposition to this budget and its successors.
If you are not in a union, then walk behind the banner of TEEU or UNITE, the two unions that opposed Lisbon II and the former of which publicly advocated a campaign of civil disobedience as recently as last weekend.
A limited number of placards will be available at the Four Courts at 11:30.
Please try to be free at lunchtime on December 6th, when we will have our pre-budget demonstration from the Commission offices in Molesworth St to the Dail.
The demo will be preceded by a press conference in Buswells Hotel in Molesworth St. Other demos may be organised at short notice in the meantime.
