Dan Dan The Desperately Antidemocratic Man

“My preference would be national government and an election at an agreed time.” Dan Boyle - 1st Oct 2010 on Twitter
Dan Dan’s Twitter enhanced egalitarian facade is wearing desperately thin in general:
Being Nasty to Dan Boyle.
The race to drive Dan Dan off Twitter starts here! In fact it seems the race was already in full swing long before the starting whistle had even been blown.
Read on for a flavour Dan Dan the Desperate Man’s ideas on the near future of Irish democracy . .
@sendboyle I believe GP have NO mandate whatsoever to do what they’re doing. When democracy is suspended do you expect people to be polite?
@eeekkk Within six months of a change of government the same argument will be made.
@sendboyle Maybe so Dan. But just because that may be case does not give greens and FF right to do Nama / Bailout without democratic mandate. Sounds like a lot of contempt for the electorate there Dan. Sounds like an argument for suspension of democracy.
@eeekkk I haven’t called and would never call for a general election to be suspended.
@sendboyle You have come a long way from when I met you at doors of shannon airport. You argued then that GOVT had no mandate! Your ’six months’ thing suggests that just cos people regularly say about governments that ‘they have no mandate’ that a mandate is not required for what is happening now. This is a BIG deal Dan. I think Democracy is effectively suspended here right now. there is a difference between sabotaging the country with a mandate and doing it without one.
- Hide quoted text -@eeekkk The Dail has a five year mandate.
@sendboyle Your party objectively are stopping anyone from having a mandate at present. I expect this of FF as do many. But Greens? With the history of green parties - their emphasis on democracy? Objectively democracy is suspended here. I agree with Whelan that NOW is election time. When there is a little space? If not now - when? exceptional things are happening. Dangerous things. It would be better if there was a mandate for these? Yes or no Dan?
@eeekkk My preference would be national government and an election at an agreed time.
@sendboyle I think doing this Nama / Bailout is a very dangerous thing without a mandate. If it goes really pear shaped I think the consequences in terms of social order could be very very alarming. Name a less popular Govt than yours in Europe sucessfully holding things together while implementing austerity? I have a feeling you don’t respect or really understand what democracy is. Being chatty on twitter is NOT democracy. Giving people a meaningful say in their futures in dangerous times IS democracy. You may be quoting the letter of ‘democracy’ but that’s about it. Spirit is antidemocratic. And that’s dangerous.

Dan Boyle. Senator, lickspittle and loyal Cowenite who still attempts to be seen as some sort of maverick. Perhaps the most pathetic individual in Irish politics?
