THE OUTPATIENTS: DEMO, 1988
Feb 9th, 2010 by Conor McCabe
[Thanks to Dave Kelly for the demos.]
According to Irish Punk and New Wake Discography, the Outpatients were:
[a] Finglas area quartet who recorded some demo tapes in 1987-88 described as ‘infectious’ by Hot Press. They appeared on Danceline’s Swimming Out of the Pool compilation in 1988, had a single on Danceline in 1989, and split in 1990.

Cheers for posting. Really catchy stuff. Especially ‘Pearl’.
Expect pieces on The Blades, The Atrix and some others on Come Here To Me in the next few weeks.
Fair play to whoever-Outpatients guitarist.

Great band. Pat was a character.
Senan from the Sugar Rays - 1987 - 1989
Jusr recently digitised my (authentically-scratched) copy of Pearl to put it on my Irish playlist on the IPod. What a great song, still.
Blimey, can’t believe this is on the web! Was driving down the Mobhi Road today and for some godunknown reason I started humming the Wildest Woman In Glasnevin. I had the demo tape that it was on but I fear it’s long since flown off to stranger climes. Does anyone have the demo tape with that track on it. It also had When We Were Young and Pearl I think. Cracking band. I think I recall them being on anything Goes (or it’s equivalent) doing a song called Sandwiches, if memory serves me correctly.
Wow, just goes to show the dangers of Googling your old band! Great to see this stuff is still somewhere in the ether. Great to hear from ye Pete, Senan. Gav, I think we might have done Sandwiches on Action Station Saturdays but not sure … lost a few years there due to smokin’ and cheap whiskey in the Underground. Dr Love, Greg was the guitar player. Thanks a mil for posting - never kept any of the old stuff, always got to embarrassed listening to it!
Pat, singer (and some guitar), Outpatients
Thanks for the comment Pat. I think the songs still stand up. Really good stuff!
Been in bed with flu for a few days and surfing the web in boredom like you do , only to find this! A link to one of the truly special and talented Dublin bands of the late 80s. These guys could write ,sing , play the sweetest tunes and I will never forget the great Saturday nights watching them playing The Underground , sometimes as a support act to the great AHOUSE or Something Happens. I doff my cap not only to a gifted band that gave me so much pleasure, but to you Conor for preserving the legacy of such individuals who all contributed so much to Dublins rich musical heritage.
By the way Greg would you ever upload some more stuff , as a previous contributer said to Pat , the music really stands up!
Its taken me 25 years to realise what a great subtle guitarist you were! Ye might get discovered yet!!!!
Just for info, I got the tape off their drummer Ronan Collins.
No, not that one…
Pat! your still alive. Amazing. Googley moogly sure is dangerous. How are you keeping?
Pat! your still alive. Amazing. Remember the huge crowds we played to in St Margarets (Potatoes in boxes) they were an rough crowd, and the venue!! Jasus.
Take it easy
Lovely stuff lads! Thanks for the memories. It’s been a while since I heard all of these.
