R.I.P., indeed Gery. When I have time, I must write a longer piece. For now, I accept two of the stated corrections. I seem to have been wrong about Gery being responsible for founding the IWU, and presumably also about him reading the 5th World Congress documents in the Curragh. Perhaps he read the documents of the founding congress of the Cannon-Healy-Lambert International Committee there, which would link up with him joining the SLL. (Yes, it is true that he was there, at any rate; other ex-members have confirmed this.) What I find interesting is that in an attempt to hatchet me some years ago, Revolutionary History did not use these.
Two last points; at the time, I understood Joseph McKenna was basically Eamon McCann edited by gery Lawless.
As to Algeria, there seems no diubt that Gery Lawless was these for a few days and, I think, after independence had been achieved. By innuendo, he would imply that he was playing a role in the actual fighting like that of MacBride in the boer war.
Could the IWG have survived with better leadership ? I do not know. Part of the problem was that we were all pretty illiterate and that those who claimed to be able and willing to correct this were as the one-eyed leading the blind.
