There is a new Property Services Regulation Bill 2009, at present being debated. Seemingly, there will be an ‘Authority’ established (under the Dept. of Justice) to oversee complaints regarding estate agents / property management companies. Tenants though, only have the PRTB, (under the Dept. of the Environment).
‘Justice’ : for Landlords
‘Environment’ : for tenants.
The Bill seemingly also will make it somewhat more difficult to attain an Auctioneer’s / Estate Agent Licence, (which may SEEM ok - but really; will this just strengthen the control of the extant agents/ property management companies ?
So, will ‘justice’ be overseeing the 111,000 landlords …….
whilst only ‘environment’ is considered in relation to the 330,000 ? tenants. Is this Bill a now consolidation of the fast power (and Licences), of the last 10 years ?
The media now will be allll about ‘Lisbon’. And this Bill may manifest without too much coverage.
I didn’t know about that bill, Lee, cheers for the up on it. And some interesting points you’re making there. Definitely worth some more investigation.
