Alright John - so he played the Point before it became the B.O. Arena or wotever the fork they call it now?? S'pose that means he's as big as Bjorn Again :->
Not too sure about the Chiapas link - I got the impression he was living in Mexico for a while. As to his being in the Camp Nuo VIP section, your mate is on the same wavelength as Mano Negra's contemporaries - The Wampas - who had a big hit in France with this one :

Chorus : 'If I had the wallet of Manu Chao....'
Sour grapes lads.
And here's the very Monkee-esque video for 'Mala Vida' - great song alright :

Hi Sean--

Manu performed at the Point a couple of years ago to a massive crowd, although what percentage were non-Irish Europeans was difficult to say. It was excellent, of course, but not as good as the Mano Negra gig I went to in Manchester years ago, which was up there as one of the best gigs I ever went to. Rivalling that gig, though, was Gogol Bordello in the Ambassador on last Saturday. They covered a Mano Negra song, "Mala Vida" in their encore.

Incidentally, I also heard that Manu Chao now gives he royalties from his records to the Zapatistas. I know he went to perform for them in Chiapas a while back, but whether or not that's true I don't know.

My mate Jordi has never seen him in Camp Nou, but that's because he's probably in the VIP section. ;-)
