Facebook organised vigil happening tomorrow Wednesday, Dec 10
Dec 9th, 2008 by Donagh

I have to apologize again to Red Mum for my tardiness. She has been working on another event to help focus public anger at the decision by the Minister for Health, Mary Harney to cancel the scheduled roll out of the HPV Vaccine for 12 year-old girls. As someone with a five-year old daughter who will at some point need the vaccine, I should have had this up sooner.
The event, a candlelit vigil outside Dail Eireann with a simultaneous one in Cork is tomorrow. Here are the details as provided by Red Mum:
This concerns Minister Harney’s decision to not implement a previously announced vaccine against the HPV vaccine which causes cervical cancer. We believe this decision is morally wrong and are insisting that she reinstates the programme.
The candlelit vigils will be taking place simultaneously at Dail Eireann in Dublin and at Daunts Square in Cork, both at 6.30pm, December 10th.
Speaking at the vigil in Dublin will be Deputy Jan O’Sullivan (Labour), Deputy James Reilly (Fine Gael) and Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin (Sinn Fein), I hope to get one more speaker and will post details in the group if I am successful.
In Cork we have Cllr Catherine Clancy (Labour), Cllr Mick Barry (Socialist Party) and Ger Murphy who lost her daughter Evelyn last June to cervical cancer.
Even if you can’t come you can help by downloading the poster either as a PDF from Flickr and display it in your workplace and email it to your family and friends.
Do feel free to email Harney and tell her how you feel about this disgraceful move. Her email is minister’s_office@health.irlgov.ie. Do include photographs of your daughters, we need to remind her all the young women of the future who are at the heart of this campaign.
All this has been organized through the Facebook group which has reached an amazing 10,000 members. If we confirm any other speakers we will post the details in the group, so please do keep checking in.
