hey Conor- thanks for posting that. The CBS interview was just flat-out embarrassing to watch- and the word today is that the network is sitting on some more footage (possibly even more humiliating?) and will show it sometime before the VP debate. The frustrating thing is that now the expectations are so low that if she manages to string together one coherent answer, the storyline after the debate will be “Palin exceeds expectations! hurrah! she’s ok after all!”
Have you seen Jon Stewart recently? The bit he did intercutting Palin’s Sean Hannity “interview” with an infomercial was brilliant.
Hope all’s well with you in general- if this lot gets elected I’ll keep you posted on where we relocate to.
Do you mean this one Becky?
Hi Becky, I was wondering about the CBS interview ‘cos everywhere it said “pt.1″ but all I ever saw was the same six minutes. And My God! What six minutes. Incredible stuff. Car crash TV at its best.
I loved Tina Fey’s joke about the UN and how McCain and Palin are going to get rid of all the foreigners and give those jobs back to Americans. Brilliant stuff.
I watched the debates and I thought Obama was ok. You could see where he was a bit shaky on a couple of things, but as myself and Donal were saying, for Obama, that was an “away” game and he got a draw. Next two debates he’s on home turf, so hopefully it’ll all go well for him. He started off well, McCain landed a few blows in the middle, but he came back at the end.
Cheers again for the comment. Great to hear from you!
Hey, Conor- if you go to talkingpointsmemo.com, they’ve posted some footage from the latest bits of the CBS interview to air (CBS aired it over 2 nights last week, and then ran some yesterday and some more today). It’s beyond bad– she can only name one Supreme Court decision (Roe v. Wade, what else?) but doesn’t seem to understand that one (she says in the next sentence that she /does/ believe there’s a constitutional right to privacy). And when Couric presses her for more, she just stalls for time and has nothing at all to say. We’ll see how the veep debate goes tomorrow.
I also felt like the debate was pretty much a draw, although McCain was clearly weaker on the economic stuff and I kept wondering, as I watched, how his anger and dismissiveness toward Obama would play to undecided voters. (Apparently not so well- all the polls afterwards gave the advantage to Obama, so I guess his calculation in being more gracious paid off in that he seemed more presidential.) McCain/Palin really scare me- she’s like Bush cubed and McCain seems, if anything, even more bellicose than Bush.
Cheers for that Becky. I’m going to put up it now. My God, though, I’ve just watched it and she is a fucking idiot. It’s not Biden that she has to worry about tonight, it’s the actual questions themselves!
