RARE RADIO OUTING FOR 90s DUBLIN SUPERGROUP

Some of you may remember the mid 90s Dublin ’supergroup’ The Sewing Room ( Sewing Room MySpace ). I say ’supergroup’ as a couple of the members emerged from out of the rubble of late 80s/early 90s bands Stars of Heaven (Stanley Erraught on guitar) and Hey Paulette! (Eamonn Davis on vocals/guitar). Perhaps it’s the fault of futile nostalgic hankering on my part, but I always felt the Sewing Room was less than the sum of its parts - it never got me smiling as much as the Stars or HP! in any case…
Enough rambling though, Mr. Báite. I mention the Sewing Room as, by chance, I was listening to ex Fall* bassist Marc Riley’s radio show this morning and the Sewing Room came up in the ‘Peel by request’ slot. It is the Sewing Room’s one and only Peel session - this one here : Peel session details / BBC Site from March 1996. To listen, you need to go here Site for Riley’s show and listen to wednesday’s show. You have to listen through a few hours of other stuff to hear the Dublin boys - but, as ever, Riley’s playlist is an interesting mix. Playing live in studio, for ex., are (partially) Scottish outfit Rags and Feathers - taking their name from a laughing Lennie lyric, if I’m not mistaken - and worth the listen too…
This post was kindly sponsored by Singer (TM), that Vatican-approved agony aunt’ll be along any minute now (wotsdisernameis ??)…
* We have now passed our weekly quota of Fall mentions - any further mentions of this Manchester institution will lead to a hefty Brussels-imposed fine
‘Supergroup’. Very funny.
In the end, Mr. Riley only played one track - mentioning ‘vice’ in the title - but there was a bit of interest stoked up anyhow…
Any truth to the rumour, SOS, that you’re another ex-Fall member ?? (See Donagh’s post from yesterday)

Took a piss once beside MES in the jacks in McGonagles - and I guess people ended up in the Fall for less, so a lucky escape perhaps.
Reckon you should apply for the Fall pension on the basis of that SOS :->
Haven’t seen in the FT whether Fall Pension Fundz Inc. has collapsed or not in the recent nonsense - but you could always chance yer arm..
Ah, McGonagle’s jacks! - got 3 urinals in the Michelin Guide to the Scuzziest Toilets in Europe 1986.. Must be still down there somewhere under Sth. Anne St. as I don’t believe they’ve properly re-developed the whole block McGonagles was on, or have they ?
Fall Pension Fundz Inc.
or ‘This Nation’s Savings Plan’?
‘This Nation’s Savings Plan’?
Oh, that’s good!
