Came across this on YouTube. An interesting piece of footage of South Dublin, Walkinstown Cross, and the Crumlin Road (Children’s Hospital) during the “Big Snow”.
Enjoy.

I remember this! I was 7 at the time.
The “Big Snow” back then was a weekly occurrence last winter in Boston, where I live now. But, back then it was a novelty. I seem to remember there was also a minor earthquake that same year.
Also I found your post about small farmers interesting, coming from small farming stock in Westmeath myself.

Cheers Mark. I had forgotten about the minor earthquake!

Thanks for the video, some great footage remember that snow well the heaviest and longest we had, I was eight had to walk in my brothers footsteps outside as the snow was so deep. We loved it got off school, house bound and had to ration the food!!!
Thanks for the memories, i was nine at the time and remeber there was no milk but i didnt care because i was nine and there was feet of snow. My father built me a sledge which didnt work so good, the lid of a bin was far more craic. I love the memories! Dont know if i would want a big snow again in dublin. The memories must be sweeter in Boston Mark O Neill.
Yes remember this well my house was covered in snow is high as my hall door and had a new baby only a week old cut off completely
video not working
Man i remember that well. I was bout 12 and remember havin to go to a farm up the road from arthur grifith park in lucan where i lived then. It was almost the countryside back then. We had to get pots and pans and get the milk direct from the farmer just after gettin it from the cow. We had to boil it then cools it down. I remember the cow smell from it and that christmas i got an astrowars video game. Xmas totp morcombe and wise on the telly. I guess things were less hurried back then. You made do. B
