THE LISBON TREATY REFERENDUM: IRISH TIMES NEEDS NEW CRAYONS
Jun 18th, 2008 by Conor McCabe
After yesterday’s Irish Independent piece, which gave the impression that people voted No to renegotiate, the Irish Times has just released what it claims are the preliminary results from the EU Commission’s referendum poll.
you know, people really need to just wait until the thing comes out. Here, have a look.
Post-vote pollPreliminary results from EU Commission post-referendum poll
Why did you vote no? (only one option)
Dont understand /not familiar 40%
Protect Irish identity 20%
Dont trust politicians/Govt policies 17%
Protect neutrality 10%
Keep commissioner 10%
Protect tax system 8%
With only one option to choose, 105% of the Irish people have been counted.
Irish Times, four words for you: learn to fucking count.

Seeing as it was a matter of circumscribing the outcome by placing set options before the person polled, it’s worth noting that options that might cast any aspect of the EU itself in a negative light are conspicuous by their absence.
Oh completely. As an exercise in analysis it’s dubious to say the least. But then again, we don’t know whether this is the EU commission’s findings - as they have said that they are still working on it - or whether it’s something the Irish Times threw together from conversations with glorious “insiders”.
As with the Irish Independent yesterday, they refer to “paper” as if it’s been published somewhere - but where we don’t know.
Thanks for this - completely obvious that people were polled in such a way as to circumscribe interpretation. On the other hand, I give up. No chance of honest debate with all institutions so corrupt. It’s every man for himself. And woman.
