Bertie to Resign on the 6th of May
Apr 2nd, 2008 by Donagh
A quick post to inform people that Bertie has set a date for his resignation.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is this morning expected to name a date for his departure from office amid mounting pressure over his personal finances.
Mr Ahern is holding a press conference which got way shortly before 11am on the steps of Government Buildings in Dublin.
Flanked by cabinet colleagues Brian Cowen, Martin Cullen, Brian Lenihan and Green Party leader John Gormley, Mr Ahern thanked his family and constituents who stood by him in “good times and bad times”.
Sources have assured me that it’s the 6th of May.
Interesting times. If anyone has more details please let us know.
Donagh - there’s no-one left in the building - they’re all getting themselves law degrees in the comments 4 or 5 posts down.
So poor auld Bert gives me a birthday present 2 days early - apart from there’ll be some sort of Ernie lining up to take his place :-
Yea. I know, its only you, me and the tumbleweed rolling passed our eyes. Thanks for reminding me about your birthday! What would you like as a present, considering that I might be seeing you soon enough.
Although it was expected, sort of (even the bearded shaman was predicting his political demise on the LLS) its still a pleasant surprise.
But yea, he’ll be replaced by some other muppet. So nothing changes really.
Resisting (a little….) the temptation to whoop; one thing i haven’t heard mentioned yet - with Blair, Paisley, Ahern gone (and Trimble, Hume and Clintonlong gone) that leaves only one of the architects of the GFA/ StAA agreements still in place………. will Grizzly be next?
Now that he’s done the decent thing, it will be a relief for him to be able to conduct his loving relationship with money out in the open and unhindered. Indeed, I would suggest that, shorn of its clandestine character, his relationship with money will flourish as a result.
sonofstan, I suspect he always wanted to be last man standing.
Hugh, I imagine he’ll start spending his ‘daughters’ money’ while living the high life. They owe him after all, considering how much money he put into their accounts over the years.
Oh God, I had the radio on earlier and I just picked up the earpiece and it was the Joe Duffy show, some caller ringing in emotionally upset, said she was absolutely devastated that this has happened to Bertie.
(And yes, on discovering it was the Joe Duffy show, I have now turned it off).
Yes, Tomaltach, stay away from the radio, especially with whinging Bertie acolytes on the there wondering why oh why oh why we won’t leave Bertie alone, and how it was all the meeja’s fault.
Now, of course, we’ll have that legacy to discuss, ad nauseum. It could go on for a while, but I hope not.
Just passed St. Luke’s - the door was open; was tempted to go in and ask if I could sign the book of condolences….
You should have stepped in to see if the safe was open..
