PLAYING GAMES WITH THE UNHCR
Nov 10th, 2007 by Conor McCabe
I came across this via the BBC (Gawd bless ‘em). It a new online interactive game to help educate and inform people (especially young people) about the realities of being a refugee. The website, run by the UNHCR (Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees), states the point of the game as such:
In “Against All Odds”, students follow a young person’s flight from oppression in his or her home country to exile in an asylum country. The game is intended to increase students’ awareness and knowledge about refugees – where they come from, what situations they have faced and how they adapt to their new lives.”
According to the UNCHR, there are almost 33 million refugees in the world today, of which around 3.5 million are estimated to be in Europe, (or around 0.48% of the continent).
The game is called Against All Odds, and it can be found here.
